  2. Simplenote

This app is what Apple’s built-in Notes on iOS devices should have been. I completely replaced the default Notes app and hid the icon using SBSettings after installing Simplenote on my iPhone a long time ago, even before they made the app free. What’s really great about this app is the simplicity of it and the over-the-air (OTA) syncing, a major requirement if you’re accessing from multiple devices.

The developers just released a major update to the app and has added tons of new features as well as a new icon & web app (old interface is still available as an option). The new version now supports tags (which you can also view as folders); ability to pin notes to the top of your list; really easy notes sharing (via e-mail, publish as web page or share online); view previous versions of your notes; full screen mode; and a trash can where your deleted notes temporarily reside before you decide to delete them completely.

Simplenote is a free universal app and works great on the iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad. An upgrade to an ad-free version is also available as an in-app purchase.
